Have you ever thought "where exactly does a Mediterranean cruise go"? You're not alone! A Mediterranean cruise offers a magical blend of historical landmarks, breathtaking natural landscapes, and vibrant cultures. All this in many more cities than you can even imagine. Today we'll dive into three of the most intriguing Mediterranean destinations you can visit on an ocean cruise and why each is an absolute must-see.

Rome, Italy: The Eternal City
You might wonder how Rome can be on an ocean cruise, when it is not exactly on the coast. Well, you're right, it's not. But how can you be within an hour of the Eternal City, and not visit? Just a short drive from the port city of Civitavecchia, Italy, is Rome. So you fly into Rome, spend a few days, and depart from Civitavecchia. On the other hand, you may be on a cruise that shows a stop in Rome - yep, that would be Civitavecchia, and your "excursion" will get you to Rome.
So let's talk education: Why It’s the Best: Known as "The Eternal City," Rome offers an unparalleled mix of ancient history and vibrant modern life. Whether you’re wandering through its ancient streets or savoring an espresso at a café, Rome's enchanting atmosphere is impossible to resist.
What to do?
Visit the Colosseum: Your first stop should be the Colosseum, one of the most iconic landmarks in Rome. Marvel at this ancient amphitheater’s sheer size and imagine the gladiatorial contests that once took place within its walls. It’s a humbling reminder of the city's storied past.
Explore the Vatican: No trip to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Vatican. St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are must-sees. Be prepared to be awestruck by Michelangelo's masterpiece on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the grandeur of the basilica.
Stroll Through Trastevere: Looking for a more laid-back experience? Head over to Trastevere, a charming neighborhood known for its narrow, winding streets and lively atmosphere. Enjoy a leisurely meal at a local trattoria, and soak in the authentic Roman vibe.
Each corner of Rome tells a tale from thousands of years ago, making it a living museum just waiting for you to explore. You must duck into one of the small pizza shops for a quick pick-me-up, you wont be disappointed.

Dubrovnik, Croatia: The Pearl of the Adriatic
Croatia is one of Europe's best kept secrets. However, recently it has been a hot topic. So many people are interested in Croatia, and I don't think they're wrong.
Why it’s the best?
Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," Dubrovnik is renowned for its stunning Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Encircled by ancient city walls, this city offers a perfect blend of historical charm and natural beauty.
What to do?
Walk the City Walls: Start your visit with a walk along the ancient city walls. This offers incredible views of the Adriatic Sea and a unique perspective of the city. It's an experience that will leave you with lasting memories and breathtaking photos.
Visit Historic Sites: Dubrovnik's history is rich and diverse. Make sure to check out the Rector’s Palace and Sponza Palace, two architectural marvels that showcase the city's historical significance.
Enjoy the Beaches: Once you've soaked up the history, head to Banje Beach for some relaxation. This beautiful beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming, offering a refreshing break from your city explorations.
Dubrovnik is more than just a pretty face—it’s a city with deep historical roots and captivating stories waiting to be discovered.
Not only can you get to Croatia on a Mediterranean cruise, but Croatia offers some absolutely amazing yacht cruises - perfect for a small group trip, and the prices are unbeatable. Much less than you would expect to pay for such an experience.

Barcelona, Spain:
The Vibrant Heart of Catalonia, and one of my overall favorite cities. From the paella and tapas, to the architecture, there is something for everyone.
Why it’s the best?
Known for its unique mix of Gothic and modernist architecture, Barcelona is a vibrant city filled with culture, delicious cuisine, and beautiful beaches. It’s a city that feels alive, buzzing with an energy that's both invigorating and inspiring.
What to do?
Tour La Sagrada Familia: Start your visit with Antoni Gaud۪̉s yet-to-be-completed masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia. The Sagrada Familia is scheduled to be complete in 2025! This basilica is a marvel of modernist architecture, and its intricate designs will leave you in awe.
Explore Park Güell: Another of GaudÃ’s creations, Park Güell is a whimsical park filled with colorful mosaics and stunning city views. It’s a place where art meets nature, offering a truly unique experience. I highly recommend a guided tour at this venue - you'll learn so much more than if you just walk through.
Stroll Las Ramblas: No trip to Barcelona would be complete without a stroll down Las Ramblas. This bustling street is full of shops, eateries, and street performers. Don’t forget to visit the nearby Boqueria Market for some local tapas—your taste buds will thank you! A fun tour in Barcelona is the Market tour - You'll see several markets where the locals shop, and learn about the growing of safflower and olives.
Barcelona is a city that never sleeps, where every street corner offers something new and exciting to discover.
