Mykonos (Me-ko-nos), Greece

The island of Mykonos, Greece is a picturesque paradise perfect for retirees, adventure travelers, or lovers wanting to get away from it all.

Let's go ahead and cover this first. Why are the houses all blue and white? Well, the story goes like this. Being a volcanic island with a scarcity for wood, the houses were made from stone, which being dark in color made it very warm to live comfortably in. They started whitewashing the houses to try to keep them warm.

The blue comes from a powder clean agent called loulaki, which was less expensive than other color paints, and was available in houses across Greece. When the loulaki was mixed with lime it became the brillant blue that we see today. From 1967-1974 a military government established their power in Greece. Their politcal agenda was to make uniformity across the landscapes, thus making it mandatory that all houses be white with a blue roof. Now you have it.

Whether you're sipping cocktails on the beach or exploring the ancient ruins, Mykonos is sure to enchant you with its crystal clear turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and friendly locals. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Greece!

WHAT CAN WE DO IN MYKONOS?

Set out for the ultimate day of fun in the sun and history on a full-day sailing cruise to Delos island (a UNESCO world heritage site). Visit the birthplace of Apollo, stop at the scenic island of Rhenia, snag some complimentary snorkeling gear and get some swimming in.

Known across Greece for its production of wheat, Mykonos has situated across the island a series of windmills that are essential for its production of wheat, and for the economy. Take a tour to visit the windmills (unlike the windmills we see in the US), and learn how they are a valuable asset to the economy.

Overlooking the southwest end of the harbor you’ll find “Little Venice” (after all, it wouldn’t be a European country if it didn’t have a “Little Venice”). This neighborhood offers a place where early ship captains settled down and built magnificent unique homes, that have since been transformed into shops, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs that are hustling and bustling all day/night long.

If you're looking for a breathtaking and relaxing vacation, look no further than the beautiful island of Mykonos. You'll be able to relax and rejuvenate in no time in this idyllic destination. Let me help you plan the perfect trip – I promise you won't regret it!
